From the ED's Desk - Mental Health Awareness

Over seventy-five years ago, Mental Health America established May as National Mental Health Awareness Month. Current statistics show that 20 percent of adults in the United States experience a mental health condition each year. Through public education about mental health conditions and their impact, we can help normalize conversations and encourage individuals to seek help while connecting them with the support they need. Raising awareness is essential to reducing stigma, increasing understanding, and ensuring that mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health. Greater awareness also helps communities recognize the signs of mental health challenges early, making timely support and intervention possible.
Fellowship Housing Opportunities, Inc. primarily serves as a housing organization; however, our mission is to provide supportive housing to individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. For this reason, we join our mental health partners in observing May as a time to educate the public about these conditions and their impact. By doing so, we aim to promote early intervention, improve access to treatment, and provide the resources necessary to support both housing stability and mental health needs.
By joining us in observing Mental Health Awareness Month, you help build a more inclusive community, improve access to care, and foster greater understanding and acceptance. Together, we can create an environment where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to seek the help they need.
