FHO Community Garden
FHO is looking to create a community garden for their residents this Spring!
The garden will be outside of Fellowship Apartments on Allison Street. It will consist of 4 raised garden beds with a variety of plants, vegetables, and fruits. Our staff at FHO will be helping residents plant, water, and maintain the garden each week. In recent years, the connection between nature and mental health has become more widely recognized. Studies show that spending time outdoors and engaging with nature can significantly improve mental health, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging and purpose.
We hope to start building the raised garden beds near the end of April or beginning of May, but we cannot do it without donations and support of the community. Not only are we looking for volunteers for the initial creation of the garden but supplies as well.
Here’s a list of items needed for the garden:
Gardening gloves
Kneeling pads
Pruning shears
Trowels
Watering cans
Rake
Spade shovel
Hose
Hose wall mount
Cages (for tomatoes and peppers)
Trellis (or stakes and fencing to make our own)
Harvesting baskets
Sunblock
Bug spray
These are the plants we had in mind for starters:
Tomatoes
Peppers
Lettuce
Zinnias
Cosmos
Potatoes
Marigolds
Basil
Please consider donating your times, supplies, or money to help make this project a reality for our residents. You can make a monetary donation for the project using this link or reach out to use directly at info@fellowshiphousing.org to drop off any supplies.
For those with mental health challenges, this garden will be a reminder that, just like the plants they care for, their growth is ongoing—and they are never alone on the journey.
