On Your Own But Not Alone

Subsidized Housing for People with Independent Living Skills

Fellowship Housing manages three multi-unit buildings which provide facility-based Section 8 subsidies in individual and shared units. The buildings are located in local area neighborhoods and are convenient to shopping, services and transportation.  As funding for these projects has been granted under HUD’s Section 811 program, applicants are limited to adults with mental illness who have very low incomes.

Our staff members are engaged with tenants in various landlord/tenant functions such as income verification, rental payments, lease agreements and maintenance requests.  As needed, tenants may be eligible to receive Outreach Services from our staff members to assist them in maintaining their skills for living in the community while managing their illness.

Tenants of the Section 811 projects are:

  • responsible for paying rent and security deposit, and for telephone and cable TV connections.

  • required to sign a lease agreement and are expected to be able to adhere to the terms of the lease.

  • required to be able to keep their unit in a decent, sanitary condition.

  • expected to notify our staff members in the event of a maintenance concern.

  • welcome to stay in their units or apply for transfers to other units as long as they are meeting the conditions of their lease agreement and remain otherwise eligible for the Section 811 project.
